As I continue to speak about my author journey to different groups, one common theme from my audience is that authors are like mythical creatures that no one will ever meet in the real world. As honored as I am to be a member of this mythical list, I am on a mission to break down the taboos of becoming a published author. Writing has always been a passion of mine from a very young age. I am constantly meeting people that have told me that they have always wanted to write a book. When I speak to classes, there is a sense of shock on the children’s faces when I introduce myself as the author of the book that was just read to them. In fact, on a few occasions, I needed to show them my picture in the back of the book.
Publishing a book is such a unique experience. I often say that my first book was my 6th child. Created from nothing but a dream. I put all of my heart, soul, and energy into making it a reality. After many months of asking a million questions and researching the process, I was finally able to hit the publish button. My book will be in the world forever. My children will be able to read it to their children, and their children to their children, etc. Knowing that I have a legacy to be left in my name is something I can’t even put into words.
In this blog, I intend to break down the barriers to becoming a self-published author. I know the overwhelming feelings a future author can have trying to navigate the self-publishing process. I will cover copywriting, ISBNs, the Library of Congress, Amazon Kindle Publishing, book marketing, and more. I believe that once these barriers are removed, the process is easily repeated and you will be publishing new books as quickly as you can write them.
